The
region of pays de la Loire is largely
undi scovered, with unspoilt countryside
and many interesting places to visit. Most
towns have market days where local produce
can be sampled. There is plenty to do and
all within a short drive from La Returais.
In the local village of Colombiers-du-Plessis
you can visit Les Jardins des
Renaudies,
a garden in an enchanting valley with 3000
species of plants.
Nearby is Gorron,which
has two supermarkets, a cinema and
a swimming pool. Market day in Gorron
is on a Wednesday,
where you can sample the local cheese, wine and meats
of the region.
There are many old towns to explore. The medieval town
of Domfront
with its historic castle, shops, restaurants and
street cafes. The castle was fought over for many years by
the French and English and now provides a dramatic vantage
point over the surrounding countryside.

Fougeres
is a short drive away and has
many attractions. The 11th century castle
is one of the oldest intact castles in France.
The town has many good shops and great
Saturday market.
